Jeff Amlin
Systematic Solutions, Inc.
Jeff Amlin founded Systematic Solutions, Inc. (SSI), an energy forecasting and analysis consulting firm, in 1985. Located in Fairborn, Ohio, SSI offers a variety of services including custom-designed all fuel energy marketing modeling and analysis of issues related to competition and deregulation, pollution assessment, fuel switching, and energy efficiency. SSIs principal tools, CIGMOD (the Competitive Industry Gaming Model) and ENERGY 2020 (an all fuel energy market simulation model) are widely used by utilities, government agencies and regulators in the U.S., Canada and abroad.
Mr. Amlin has over 20 years of experience developing models and performing integrated simulation and uncertainty analysis. He has authored or co-authored over 20 reports/papers on energy systems and planning.
Mr. Amlin has developed many other energy models including HYDRO1 which analyzed the economic, environmental, recreational, community, and energy impacts of small-scale hydropower development.
Mr. Amlin developed the HYPERSENS model sensitivity/confidence testing software. This software can quantify input uncertainty and develop variable confidence intervals for any simulation model in a small fraction of the time required using conventional methods.
With George Backus of Policy Assessment Corporation, Mr. Amlin developed the UTILITY 2020 model, which was one of the first full-scale electric utility models to run on a microcomputer. Later, again with Dr. Backus, he developed the ENERGY 2020 model which simulates the dynamics of the supply and demand of all fuels.
Mr. Amlin was the lead analyst and project manager for the Hawaii Energy Strategy project which modeled each of the four major counties in Hawaii and provided policy analysis related to all energy sources in Hawaii including DSM, wind, geo thermal, electricity, oil, and coal.
Mr. Amlin has worked with analysts in the US, Canada and Eastern Europe to produce electricity and energy forecasts with ENERGY 2020.
Mr. Amlin developed CIGMOD, a gaming/simulation model that can simulate many different levels of competition, allowing players to develop strategies to meet unexpected outcomes of deregulation. Mr. Amlin has conducted numerous workshops on electric industry restructuring using the CIGMOD model.
